Aku is a Finnish-American documentary photographer based between London and Finland. He is experienced
in both still and moving image and has been published
in newspapers and magazines across Finland,
including Helsingin Sanomat, Satakunnan Kansa, and Seura. His personal practice explores themes
of community and belonging through long-term
projects. Aku’s work has been awarded by College
Photographer of the Year, Communication Arts, and
the National Press Photographers Association. In
addition to his professional practice, Aku works with
alternative photographic methods and publication-
based media. As a member of BRAW Darkoom
Collective in London alongside seven other
photographers, he explores print-based work in a
community setting, hosting workshops and events
through the collective.
